2005
The official
“Cat Coin Series” is from the British Isle of
Man. The cat coins were first introduced to
the world back in 1988. At their introduction,
the mint promised to change the designs every
year. Past years have featured designs of cats
or kittens from Persian Cats, Maine Coon, Burmese,
Siamese and even Alley Cats. The Cat Coin Series
has turned one of the world’s most beloved animals
into one of the most popular modern silver coin
series. Each coin is one ounce of .999 fine
silver and comes in a beautiful red leatherette
collector case (as shown to the left) with certificate
of authenticity. Most years of these coins are

as “Tonks”, is a relatively new breed
and is the result of crossing Siamese
and Burmese and said to combine the
best qualities of each. The breed are
warm, loving and highly intelligent
and make wonderful companions for their
human owners. The Tonkinese have an
incredible memory and senses that are
akin to radar. There are five varieties

2003 Proof Silver
Balinese Kittens
The Balinese
is a semi-longhaired variant of the
Siamese breed. Its coat is of medium
length, and very silky and fine.
The Balinese are found in the four solid
point colors associated with the Siamese
breed (seal, blue, chocolate and lilac
point). Although longhaired Siamese
kittens appeared in some litters, it
was not until the mid-1950s that longhaired
cats of Siamese type and coloration
were actively bred. The breed was first
accepted for championship status in
1961 by CFF. Like its parent breed,
the Siamese, the Balinese is an active,
very affectionate, talkative, and inquisitive
breed. It likes to get underfoot and
be part of everything its owner does.
There is no job that two hands can do
that a Balinese will think two hands
and four paws cannot do better.

2002 Proof Silver
Bengal Cat and Kitten
The Bengal
is descended from crosses between wild
Asian Leopard Cats and domestic shorthairs.
The first Bengal breeding program began
in 1963 and the breed was first accepted
for championship status in TICA in 1984.
It is a large cat with a short glossy
coat. While most commonly seen in the
brown spotted tabby pattern, they may
also be found in the marbled pattern
(classic tabby). Glittering refers to
an effect on the coat that makes it
looks as if the coat was sprinkled with
glitter; rosette refers to the spots
forming distinct patterns, preferably
with more than one color tone within
the spot. Seal sepia, seal lynx, and
seal mink, color patterns with a pale
white or cream background, are popularly
referred to as "snow" Bengal's. Well-bred
Bengal's are active, intelligent companions.
Buyers should ask how many generations
removed Bengal kittens are from wild
blood; the best companion cats are at
least four generations removed. Most
pet Bengal's are wild only in looks,
not in personality.

2001 Proof Silver
Somali Kittens
The Somali
is perhaps most easily described as
a longhaired Abyssinian, although over
time, the types have diverged some and
these breeds no longer look like exact
counterparts. This lively breed with
a bushy tail has sometimes been called
the "fox cat". Its dense, soft coat
is ticked in the manner associated with
wild cats. Somalis are extroverted,
active, inquisitive, very affectionate
and people-oriented. They can be stubborn
and obedience is better won with love
and praise than with punishment. Although
sources often state that Somalis are
not good apartment-dwellers, they are
fine apartment cats as long as they
have the run of the place. They do not
like being caged or closely confined
to a single room for extended periods.
They are most commonly available in
blue, fawn, red (sorrel), and ruddy
colors. They are also available in silver
tones in Europe and less frequently
in the United States, although many
associations do not accept thiscolor.
They are accepted outside the United
States in other colors in some other
associations, including chocolate and
lilac.

and by its large rounded eyes, which

and shorthaired varieties, in a great
number of colours and pattern combinations.

1999
Proof Silver British Blue Cat
The British
Shorthair is a stocky, sturdy cat resembling
a plush teddy bear. It is a calm, quiet
companion. While solid blue is the color
most associated with the breed, so much
so that this breed is sometimes known
as the British Blue, "Brits" are found
in a number of other colours and patterns
as well. It is accepted in most colors
and patterns, except colorpoint. Like
the Abyssinian, the British Shorthair
breed suffered dramatic losses during
World War II in England, and other breeds
were brought in to bolster the gene
pool and restore the old type. It was
first accepted for championship status
in the United States by ACA in 1967;
it was not accepted in CFA until 1980.
This breed is simply known as the "Shorthair"
in Great Britain.

1998
Proof Silver Birman Cat
Also known
as the "Sacred Cat of Burma", the Birman
has a number of fanciful legends associated
with its origin. The breed first appeared
in France in 1919 with a pregnant female
imported from Burma (the male died en
route). The breed was first recognized
for championship status by a French
cat registry. The breed's French name,
Sacre de Birmanie, is the origin of
the breed name Birman. Birmans first
appeared in the United States in 1959
and in Great Britain five years later.
It was accepted for championship status
in GCCF in 1966 andin 1967 by CFA. It
is a semi-longhaired cat, accepted only
in the pointed pattern. It is distinguished
from other pointed cats not only by
its moderately stocky body type, but
also by its four white feet. Birmans
are docile, quiet cats with a strong
"people" orientation. Although longhaired,
they do not need daily grooming.

1996
Proof Silver Burmese Cat
The Burmese
originated from Thailand, and all Burmese
can trace their ancestry to a cat named
Wong Mau, who arrived in the United
States in the 1920s. The Burmese was
accepted for CFA studbook registration
in 1936, but was not accepted for championship
status until 1957. Burmese is a lively,
affectionate, and even-tempered cat
with a sleek, glossy coat. They are
deceptively heavy due to their muscularity.
They continue to be playful long into
adulthood and old age. Though the original
color of the American-type Burmese is
solid sable brown, other colors (not
recognized in all associations) include
blue, champagne, platinum, and tortie
colors. American Burmese are commonly
bred in two types: traditional and contemporary,
the latter being a more rounded look.
They are only accepted in the traditional
four colors of sable, champagne, platinum,
and blue. The European (Foreign) Burmese
can be found in brown, chocolate, red,
cream, and tortie colors, whereas the
American-type Burmese may only be bred
in the traditional four colors.

1993
Proof Silver Maine Coon Cat
Some 150
years ago, American
sailors returning
to the State of Maine brought home Angoras
which over the years were selectively
bred to evolve into one of the largest
feline breeds.
The Maine Coon Cat is a beautiful large
cat that comes in many colors and patterns,
although it is best known for the brown
tabby variety. With long legs
and bodies, and a coat reminiscent of
the native raccoon - "coon", it has
a strange habit of grooming its long
tail by spiraling it around a front
leg. It is large in size, with
a muscular, broad-chested body and
wide-set legs and large paws.
The Maine Coon has a heavy, shaggy coat
with longer hair on the stomach, flanks,
and tail. Their personality is
friendly and lovable, and they require
little maintenance. They adapt
well to other animals, and enjoy human
companionship.
