Israel Bar-Mitzvah Silver Coin

Issued
on the 13th Anniversary
of the State of Israel in 1961, this
5 Lirot commemorative coin with the
theme of the Bar-Mitzvah has become
a eclectic gift for Jewish boys
celebrating their 13th birthday,
which is the ceremonial occasion
that marks the time when a young man
is recognized as an adult in the
Jewish community.
Reverse Design
In the upper left corner, the word
"Israel" in Hebrew and Arabic with
the date "5721-1961" in Hebrew and
Arabic numerals. Beneath and to the
right, the numeral "5" and the
Hebrew inscription, "Israeli Lirot."
In the right field is an olive
branch bearing ten leaves and three
olives, standing for 13 years of
statehood.
Obverse Design
A reproduction of an ancient Holy
Ark. Visible within the Ark are the
Scrolls of the Law, which at that
period were customarily placed in a
horizontal position. There are steps
leading up to the Ark. To the right
of the Ark, is the Hebrew word "Bar"
and to the left, the Hebrew word
"Mitzvah."
Edge Design
In Hebrew, the incuse inscription,
"Thirteenth Year of the State of
Israel"
