Walking Liberty Half Dollars
 Designed in 1916 by
Adolph A. Weinman, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar is considered an artistic and aesthetic
triumph that symbolizes the great spirit of our nation.
The obverse of the coin
dramatically portrays a beautiful Miss Liberty wrapped in a
swirling American flag striking toward the dawn of a new day.
She carries branches of laurel and oak, symbolizing civil and
military glory. Her outstretched hand bestows the spirit of
Liberty. Our nation's motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears in the
field to the right. This was the last regular issue United
States Mint coin to depict Miss Liberty.
 On
the coin's reverse, the artist has depicted an American eagle,
fierce, with raised wings, fear-less in spirit and
conscious of his powers. Springing from a rift in the rock
on which the eagle is perched, is a sapling of Mountain
Pine—symbol for our young and ever growing nation. The reverse
is one of Ed's favorites, bold and beautiful.
Choice Examples of this classic
coin are in very short supply today. In fact, all Walking
Liberty Half Dollars have been forever removed from circulation
and are becoming very scarce. However, Kelley's Coins has
been able to secure a small quantity of brilliant uncirculated
coins. These are some beautiful
and lustrous coins. The San Francisco mint coins are typical
weak strikes.
