Sacagawea portrayed in three-quarter profile. On her back,
Sacagawea carries Jean Baptiste, her infant son, whom she gave
birth to early in the Lewis and Clark expedition.
The Golden Dollar's reverse has a soaring American bald eagle, our
nation's symbol. It is encircled by 17 stars - one for each
state in the union at the time of the 1804 Lewis and Clark
expedition. The mint mark is below the date on the obverse.
